Community-led speedwatch group launches first outing to tackle speeding concerns

In an effort to enhance road safety and address growing concerns about speeding in Twyford, the newly formed speedwatch group conducted its inaugural outing yesterday.  The initiative, a collaborative effort between residents, Twyford Parish Council and local law enforcement, aims to monitor and report speeding vehicles in residential areas.

Equipped with high-visibility vests, handheld speed detection devices and a commitment to making the streets safer, volunteers stationed themselves on the Wargrave Road.  The speedwatch group operates under the guidelines provided by the police, ensuring that their actions are both legal and effective.

During their first outing, the volunteers recorded vehicle speeds, noting down any that exceeded the limit.  These details will be passed to the police, who may issue warning letters to the offending drivers.  Persistent offenders could face further action.

The speedwatch group plans to conduct regular outings throughout Twyford and hopes that these measures will lead to a significant reduction in speeding and an overall improvement in road safety.  They also hope to recruit additional volunteers to join their ranks, emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility.
